August is a month of birthdays. Don and I celebrated our 64th year! Another friend has a birthday the day before me; we celebrated that by taking our first trip to Red Robin. Her husband told the waitress it was Karen’s and my birthday so we got a balloon tied to our wrist and the crew sang a song about “old ladies” getting older.....but we did get a free sundae after all that embarrassment. On my actual birthday my wonderful husband took me out to Outback for dinner. It was delicious as always.
BUT the eating didn’t stop there.
The next day we took Don & Onie to see our new property in Stanardsville. Barbara and Larry meet us at Ruckersville to follow us to our new property. After visiting for awhile, we drove toward Charlottesville to find a certain restaurant that we had heard was great. We finally found it and enjoyed (stuffed) ourselves. It was a great afternoon and evening with family.
BUT it still didn’t stop there.
On Saturday our children came down to our house and we ate Thai take out. We even had it delivered to our house which is a feat not readily available to us except recently thanks to the encroachment of civilization. My kids must love me because they even played games with me. Did I ever tell you I love to play games? We played Blokus and Last Word to name a few. Of course I got to hold Annabelle too which was great. We just passed her around but she wasn’t very interested in playing.
Another birthday event I got to do was go with the Libeau’s to National Harbor. Onie’s birthday is also in August. We didn’t even know this new project existed; however we got some great pictures. We rode with Don & Onie over the new Woodrow Wilson Bridge and took the first exit in Maryland to National Harbor. It is about 50% complete but what we saw was great. They have moved “The Awaking” that was at Haines Point. We meet Don & Onie’s kids there so there was nine of us in all. They had planned a speed boat ride which went to Mt. Vernon and back on the Potomac. The ride was a lot of fun and the weather was perfect. Also Gaylord has built a huge hotel/convention center which is worth seeing there as well. We had fun exploring that building. You will have to ask Don, Tim, Michael, or Jen where they went because I am not telling. We of course ate ice cream before we went on the boat ride and ate dinner afterwards. It was a wonderful time and I thank the Libeau’s for letting us share in their day.
I highly recommend the National Harbor. Once it is completed there will be numerous shops and eateries to enjoy plus the views are fantastic.
August has been a great month so far. We have enjoyed seeing Annabelle on a weekly basis but I could fill up another page just on our new granddaughter so will save that for another time.
