We planned this week long trip to Sedona, AZ with our son, Matt and his wife Jill right around the time she got pregnant, oh (we thought), by then the baby will be 3 1/2 months old.....no problem. Annabelle was so great on the plane, but it was all of "the stuff" you have to take with you and what you need to do to get through security with a 3 1/2 month old that got interesting. Are those 10, yes count them, 10 grey bins all ours? those aren't mine? whose are those? Really it wasn’t that bad and Annabelle seemed to enjoy watching all the activity around her. She slept on the plane both ways. Of course everywhere we went, people would stop and tell us what a beautiful baby she was. She would look at them with those beautiful dark blue eyes and smile at them.
After the flights we rented a van and started the two hour plus drive to Sedona from Phoenix. Annabelle decided enough was enough so we had to stop just once to let her get out and do what we like to call her "penguin" dance. She got changed and then she just loves to move her arms and legs all at once and blow bubbles and make cute noises. Back in the van she finally went to sleep for the rest of the trip to Sedona. Since it is a three hour difference in time in Sedona, want to bet what time we were all in bed that first evening?
Sedona is beautiful, with so many red rock formations and breathtaking vistas. We took short day trips around the area and visited a couple of wineries one day of our trip. Annabelle did not prefer the cabernet, but in the end none of us became fans of Arizona wines. We drove the red rock loop which actually turned to a gravel road part of the way. Just like home! Another day we all went to see the Montezuma’s Well. A lot of the rock formations have names like Bell Rock, Snoopy Rock, Teapot Rock, Steamboat Rock, and Coffeepot Rock. I will try to label some of the pictures because some of them you really have to use your imagination. There was this great restaurant called Coffee Pot Restaurant that served breakfast all day, and offered a choice of 101 omelet combinations. I figured i would pass on the peanut butter and jelly omelet, but good food and friendly service - can't beat that. We did some shopping at a place called "Uptown Sedona", and we ate buffalo burgers at the "Cowboy Club". Giddy up. Back at the resort we went to the "make your own sundae" free event. Double giddy up. Jill and I took a nice break with a painting class and had a lot of fun doing with that. Both couples had a "night out" where just the two of us went out to a nice restaurant, as there were so many to choose from.
Our week was great and we enjoyed so much, being able to spend all that time with our granddaughter. Annabelle graced us with her very first laugh during our trip, it was amazing. I was holding her and her mom and dad were talking and making faces at her. She through her head back and laughed twice. The rest of the week was spent desperately trying to get her to do it again, and we think she would come close but not they never came out like those first couple of giggles. Please take a look at our photos and see what a wonderful time we all had.
Next adventure will be Applebutter. This is our annual gathering of friends and family while we stir a 30 gallon copper pot full of applesauce over an open fire for over 10 hours.
